Yes, we take all materials away and all bags are sorted through at Keep it Green to salvage any recyclable materials.
We accept all certified compostable materials in our composting system including CPLA. However we do recommend using paper and wood products over CPLA.
Although most CPLA is compostable, most composting sites are not equipped to break it down into compost. Therefore, it can often end up in the incinerator.
We do this to minimize confusion and ensure consistency for crew members trying to practice correct recycling procedures. Regardless of what "compostable" materials the caterers are providing, the crew know that it goes in the compost bin. CPLA does not hinder the composting process for other compostable materials where as it can contaminate recyclable products if it ends up in the wrong bin.
